1. What Cookies Are
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website you visit. Cookies are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to the site owner.
Similar technologies, such as local storage and tracking pixels, perform comparable functions and are covered by this policy where we use them.
Cookies are commonly described as:
- Strictly necessary — required for a service you have asked for, such as keeping you logged in or protecting a form from misuse. These do not require your consent.
- Analytics — used to understand how a site is used.
- Marketing or advertising — used to build a profile of your interests and show you advertising, often across different websites.
2. Cookies on the PubPulse Website
For an ordinary visit, this website sets no cookies. The one exception is described in section 3: if you arrive through a link from one of our partners, we ask whether you're happy for us to set a cookie that credits them, and we set it only if you say yes.
We measure how the website is used with Cloudflare Web Analytics. Cloudflare Web Analytics is privacy-first and does not use cookies, does not use local storage, does not fingerprint individual visitors and does not track people across other websites. It reports aggregate information such as how many people viewed a page and which page they arrived from.
We do not use advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels or cross-site advertising technologies on this website.
Because an ordinary visit sets no cookies and uses no non-essential tracking, most visitors will never see a cookie notice from us. We only ask when there is something to ask about. We would rather show you the site than ask you to dismiss a banner.
3. Partner Links
Some businesses and individuals, such as accountants, stocktakers and other licensees, recommend PubPulse, and we pay them a commission when someone they refer subscribes. We use a service called Rewardful to keep track of those referrals. You can read about the programme on our affiliates page.
How it works. A partner's link ends in something like ?via=theirname, and may take you to this website or straight to our account sign-up page. If you arrive that way, a short notice asks whether you're happy for us to set a cookie so that the partner is credited if you sign up.
- If you say yes: Rewardful's tracking script runs and sets one cookie,
rewardful.referral. It holds a random reference number for your visit, together with which partner and which of our partner schemes referred you. It holds nothing you've typed, and nothing about your card. It lasts 90 days. It is stored for pubpulse.co.uk and its sub-addresses, so that our sign-up pages at app.pubpulse.co.uk and pricepulse.pubpulse.co.uk can read it. If you create a PubPulse account while it is in place, we record which partner referred you against your account, so that they can be paid. - If you say no: nothing is set and Rewardful's script does not run. The partner won't be credited automatically. If you'd still like them to be, tell us who referred you and we can credit them by hand.
Either way, we remember your answer in a second cookie, pubpulse_partner_choice, so that we don't ask again on every page. That cookie records only "yes" or "no". It is strictly necessary, because it exists to respect your choice, so it does not itself need consent.
When Rewardful's script runs, your browser connects to Rewardful's servers. Like any website, they see your IP address and basic browser details. Because the partner cookie belongs to pubpulse.co.uk, other websites cannot read it, and we do not use it for advertising.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lasts | Needs your consent? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
rewardful.referral | Rewardful, on pubpulse.co.uk | Credits the partner whose link you followed if you sign up | 90 days | Yes, and it's only set if you agree |
pubpulse_partner_choice | PubPulse, on pubpulse.co.uk | Remembers whether you agreed to the cookie above | 90 days | No (strictly necessary) |
Changing your mind. You can remove the partner cookie at any time with this button, or by deleting cookies for pubpulse.co.uk in your browser. If you have already created an account, removing the cookie doesn't change the referral recorded against it. Email us and we'll remove it.
How we handle the referral once it is recorded against your account, and what we share with Rewardful, is set out in our Privacy Policy.
4. If You Send Us Your Details
Where you complete a form on this website, for example to request our free guide, the information you enter is sent to us and added to our email system so that we can send you what you asked for. That process does not place cookies on your device.
How we use those details, and how you can ask us to stop, is set out in our Privacy Policy.
5. Cookies in the PubPulse Applications
The PubPulse applications — including RotaPulse, PricePulse, TaskPulse, DiaryPulse and the PubPulse account area — are provided on separate addresses such as rotapulse.pubpulse.co.uk and app.pubpulse.co.uk.
These applications use strictly necessary cookies only. They are used to:
- keep you signed in as you move between pages;
- identify which pub or venue account you are working in;
- protect forms against cross-site request forgery, a common form of attack; and
- remember basic display preferences you have chosen.
These cookies are essential to providing a service you have asked for, so they do not require consent.
There is one exception, and it applies to the account sign-up pages only. They show the notice described in section 3 to anyone who arrives through a partner link. If you agreed to the partner cookie, they read it when you create your account, so the partner who referred you can be credited. If you didn't agree, they don't run Rewardful's script. We do not use analytics, advertising or profiling cookies inside the applications.
6. Payments
Subscription payments are handled by Stripe. When you subscribe, change a plan or manage billing, you are taken to a payment page hosted by Stripe on Stripe's own systems. Stripe sets its own cookies on those pages, principally to process the payment securely and to detect and prevent fraud.
We never see or store your full card details. Stripe's use of cookies is governed by Stripe's own privacy and cookie policies, available on the Stripe website.
7. Emails We Send
Our emails are sent using Brevo. Marketing emails may contain a small tracking pixel that tells us whether the message was opened and whether a link was clicked, so that we can understand what is useful and stop sending things that are not.
This is not a cookie on your device. You can prevent it by setting your email program not to load remote images automatically, and you can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link at the foot of every message.
Service messages about your account, your subscription or the security of your data are not marketing, and will still be sent where necessary.
8. How to Control Cookies
You can remove the partner cookie with the button in section 3.
You can also control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Every major browser lets you see what has been stored, delete existing cookies and block new ones, either generally or for particular sites.
Please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent the PubPulse applications from working — you will not be able to stay signed in.
Guidance on managing cookies in your particular browser is published by the browser's maker and by the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we introduce a new feature or change a service provider. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
If we ever introduce cookies or technologies that require your consent, we will ask for that consent before they are used, and this page will be updated to describe them.
